Changes to ABC Satellite Delivery Services
Welcome to your Campersat
Newsletter
Welcome
to this edition of the Campersat update for Travellers & Remote Area Residents.
As Announced by Optus 25th August 2009
Commencing 25
August, viewers will notice changes to their ABC TV channel
options. Aurora viewers will continue to receive the ABC
TV channel applicable to their region but will no longer be able to
receive ABC TV services from outside their region. When selecting
these ABC TV channels an on screen scramble message will be
displayed. This restriction is a requirement of a Court
suppression order.

Background Comments from Videosat
Pty Ltd & Campersat
We are all aware of the process in which ABC & SBS are
assigned as encrypted broadcasts. As public viewers, we have no choice
but to endure the decisions made for us. We can however, protest for
these decisions to be overturned with our ministers and ABC
management.
As far as we can
ascertain, a Victorian court suppression order on the publication of
forthcoming proceedings
on a particular topic in the state of Victoria has been placed. This
means that Victorian viewers in the state of Victoria should not be
viewing a news item pertaining to the court case that may emanate from
other states. It appears that the ABC has taken extraordinary steps to
comply with a suppression order in Victoria which serverely imposes
unnecessary restrictions on viewing by our remote area
viewers.
This means that many other viewers will be disadvantaged from the
unilateral decision to block viewer access in other states.
If this effects you and your freedom to view ABC TV that you have
paid for with your taxes, there are much better means for Optus to
implement any court suppression order.
We suggest that you take the time to vent your objection to the
applicable organisations: eg.
If you are travelling, it may be advantageous to change your current registered location to view
your preferred services.
Optus Shortcuts
25th August 2009
Optus are taking shortcuts because they have
used a simple system of only giving you your home state ABC, as there
are other
means to do this with minimal disruption to your existing services. You
may recall the ABC Management for radio took this decision for radio
services because they were unable to manage your access to regional
radio.
Oh, and while we are on the subject, why are we denied our only
satellite service? ABC2, ABC3, ABCHD, albeit on standard definition 4x3
format. Is someone too lazy?
By giving us all these extra services that the terrestrial viewers
have, would be pittance on the budget , and could be accomplished
with the press of a button.
Lastly, as we can receive ABC news updates from radio, internet
and other sources, all services should be unencrypted!!
Please feel free to copy us in on emails.
